Fitzgibbons's nephew from poisoning, which the fanatical Father Bain had declared as demonic possession, Claire makes a new enemy, and even though she earns some trust from the MacKenzies she is called a miracle-worker and is therefore presumed too valuable to let go. As Claire plans to return to Inverness and the standing stones, Colum decides it is best to keep her at Leoch, against her will, as healer to the clan.Ĭlaire hopes that her medical skills will earn her the trust of the MacKenzies, and her eventual freedom, but manages only to make herself indispensable. Claire is brought to Castle Leoch, and realizes that she has somehow traveled back in time.Ĭlaire is presented to Colum MacKenzie, laird of Castle Leoch, where she learns she has landed in 1743. As they flee, she sets his dislocated arm and later treats his bullet wound. A Scotsman rescues Claire and she meets Jamie Fraser. Soon she is in the middle of a skirmish between English redcoats and rebel Highlanders, and comes face to face with Frank's double, Randall, who is captain of the Dragoons. The morning after observing a modern Druid ritual at the standing stones on the hill of Craigh na Dun, Claire touches one of the stones, and wakes up lying on the ground. Frank is researching his family history, in particular his 18th Century ancestor Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall. Meanwhile, tell us what episodes you’re the most excited to see again in the comments. It shows how bold Outlander is willing to be in adapting key stories. To Ransom a Man’s Soul – This is simply the performance of Sam Heughan’s career, especially combined with the episode before in “Wentworth Prison.” By no means are these easy episodes to watch because of the psychological torment and suffering that Jamie endures, but they are critically important to understand both the depths of his trauma and also the depths of Jonathan Randall’s evil. Laura Donnelly is also brilliant as Jenny - there’s a reason she’s being courted for so much work now, including HBO’s upcoming The Nevers. (Episode 12.) There’s just such a beauty there, and almost every visit allows for an opportunity for fantastic character growth and evolution. Lallybroch – We love this episode, though we could also say this about many an episode set around the family home for the Frasers.

It was actually the midseason and with that, it served as a nice way to mirror the premiere episode - though Jamie was of course staying within a singular timeline. The Reckoning – While the premiere is a great opportunity to get a window into the soul of Claire, this is actually one of the best depictions of Jamie at this point in the series’ run.
